So What Causes Facial
Wrinkles Anyway?
The biggest cause is aging. As you get older, collagen production slows down causing your
skin to start to sag as the fat which plumps it up tends to diminish. There are treatments available to
combat the appearance of aging. You could inject collagen into your skin or buy topical remedies that claim to
increase collagen production, but in reality, you'd be much better off just giving your body proper nutrients and
perhaps making heathier lifestyle choices. Then your skin will have a chance to change naturally
and you'll see those face wrinkles diminish.
The Sun Causes Facial Wrinkles
Prolonged direct exposure to UV rays that the sun gives off can cause premature aging and facial
wrinkles. Many of us haven't worried much about the damage that the sun might do to our skin,
simply because the results weren't immediately evident. The damaging rays of the sun break down collagen and
elastin in our skin causing it to sag and eventually wrinkle much earlier than it might have without that
UV exposure. For many people, the face wrinkles they see in their early thirties are the direct result of too
much sun exposure in their twenties.
The sun's rays can be beneficial to our overall heath, but moderation is often the missing
ingredient. We need the sun to stimulate the production of Vitamin D in our bodies, but we don't need to get
sunburned to make that happen.
Smoking Causes Facial Wrinkles
Many people don’t realize that smoking is a major cause of facial wrinkles. It is more than just
the repetitive action of puckering around a cigarette that can cause small lines to appear around your lips. While
repetitive actions do contribute to face wrinkles, smoking will also speed up the natural aging process of your
skin. The heat of the cigarette, the toxic chemicals that are ingested and even the changes to the blood supply in
a smoker’s skin can all contribute to the early formation of wrinkles.
Poor Diet Causes Facial
Wrinkles
Antioxidants are almost as importance to your health and appearance as consuming adequate
amounts of pure water. Foods to that are packed with antioxidants will help keep you healthier and
feeling younger. They help to keep free radicals under control in the body. Free radicals are molecular
compounds linked with diseases such as cancer.
Antioxidant packed foods to add to your
daily diet
1. Apples: Red Delicious in particular.
2. Berries: Especially acai and blueberries, but also cranberries, blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries.
3. Artichokes: Hearts or the petals, artichokes have the most antioxidants of all vegetables.
4. Oregano: add it to soups, pizzas, etc.
5. Nuts: Pecans, walnuts, almonds, even cashews.
6. Beans: Small red beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, and black beans.
7. Plums and Prunes: They make good snacks!
8. Cherries: Fresh or frozen, sweet or sour.
9. Dark chocolate with at least 80% cocoa: Enjoy in moderation.
Nature has provided what we need to stay healthy and looking great. While aging is inevitable,
the amount and type of wrinkles that you get may have just as much to do with your diet and how you treat your skin
as it does with the age of your skin.
